ATTENTION: Members of the Dunn Energy Cooperative
Your 2019 Dunn Energy Co-op Election Ballots
Will Arrive in Early March.
PLEASE, DO NOT THROW YOUR BALLOTS AWAY.
YOUR VOTE REALLY MATTERS THIS YEAR!
LAST YEAR, WE WERE NOT PAYING ATTENTION when we voted for bylaw changes that:
1) Allow our co-op to deny a member the basic American right to file a lawsuit (one of the rights our veterans served and sacrificed to protect) in a dispute with, or a claim against, the co-op, with the exception of small claims or issues pertaining to rights-of-way. Furthermore, class actions versus the co-op are also expressly prohibited. Instead members will be forced into costly and time-consuming mediation and arbitration.
2) Threaten local co-op control by allowing (for the first-time ever) outsiders residing anywhere (e.g., New York, Brussels) to serve on our Dunn Energy Co-op board of directors. This means that persons who do not live here can shape and decide co-op policy affecting those of us who DO live here.
HOW DID THIS HAPPEN?
Just 7 percent of our membership voted for these changes. Most members never voted at all.
WHY DID WE DO SUCH A THING?
Too many of us simply trusted the recommendations of co-op management and the current board of directors without understanding the implications of these changes.
WHAT DO WE DO NOW?
Because the incumbent directors still support the anti-member bylaws they proposed last year, we need to vote in some new directors who will be more responsible to member interests.
VOTE FOR CHALLENGERS, NOT INCUMBENTS
Vote for local member-owner representatives who will advocate for better communication, greater transparency, and re-evaluation those bylaw changes, with the possibility of supporting their amendment or reversal. Please mark your ballots for the following candidates,.
District 2 – Douglas Owens-Pike
District 3 – Jeffrey Gasteyer
District 5 – Lisa Pelnar
